Temporary Death Bans for Hardcore Mode

Overview
HardcoreBan is a comprehensive plugin system that adds temporary bans when players die in hardcore mode. Instead of permanent death, players are banned for a configurable duration and can return once their ban expires.

Features

  • Temporary Bans - Automatically ban players for a configurable duration when they die
  • Velocity Support - Prevent banned players from connecting at the proxy level
  • MySQL Storage - Reliable database storage with HikariCP connection pooling
  • Spectator Mode - Let players see their death location before being kicked
  • Gamemode Reset - Automatically restore survival mode when bans expire
  • MiniMessage Support - Fully customizable messages with colors and formatting
  • Bypass Permission - Allow certain players to be exempt from death bans

Requirements

  • Java 21+
  • Paper 1.21.4+
  • Velocity 3.4.0+ (optional)
  • MySQL or MariaDB

Commands

/hardcoreban check <player> - Check if a player is banned
/hardcoreban list - List all banned players
/hardcoreban reset <player> - Remove a player's ban
/hardcoreban clearall - Remove all bans
/hardcoreban debug - Test database connection

Permissions

hardcoreban.admin - Access to all commands (default: op)
hardcoreban.bypass - Exempt from death bans
hardcoreban.check - Check ban status
hardcoreban.list - List bans
hardcoreban.reset - Remove bans

Configuration

ban-duration:
  amount: 24
  unit: "hours"

hardcore-world: "world"
set-spectator-on-death: true
kick-delay-ticks: 60

database:
  host: localhost
  port: 3306
  database: minecraft
  username: root
  password: password

How It Works

  1. Player dies in the configured hardcore world
  2. Plugin records the ban in MySQL database
  3. Player enters spectator mode briefly (configurable)
  4. Player is kicked with a ban message
  5. Velocity blocks reconnection attempts to the hardcore server
  6. When ban expires, player can rejoin with survival mode restored

Installation

  1. Download both JAR files from the releases
  2. Place Paper JAR in your server's plugins folder
  3. Place Velocity JAR in your proxy's plugins folder (if using Velocity)
  4. Configure database settings in both config files
  5. Restart your servers
