  1. v0.20.0+sponge+mc26.3latestv0.20.0 - Sponge (MC 26.3, experimental)2 days ago
    New Features
    - Draw far players farther — The new "Extend Far Player Draw Range" option on the Far Players page (off by default) draws far players past the game's normal draw distance when you use an LOD mod such as Voxy. Fog can still hide very distant players; turn off your LOD mod's fog if they fade out. - Map permission — With privacy.request_no_map_ingestion on, players with the lss.map_ingestion permission can still add LOD terrain to their maps (needs a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms).
    Bug Fixes
    - Paper version check — The Paper plugin no longer starts on a Minecraft version it wasn't built for, which could fill the LOD store with empty terrain. Paper LOD stores rebuild once after updating; if distant terrain went missing after a Paper update, players who joined during that time should run /lss clearcache once while connected.
    Support
    - Platforms — Fabric, Paper/Purpur/Folia (experimental), NeoForge and Sponge (experimental) for Minecraft 26.3. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.19.1…

Changing height refills the map from a local copy (about 65 MB at the default distance; /lss clearcache removes it). - Cave maps in the Overworld — Terrain that arrives while you're under a roof fills the cave map you're viewing. - Keep LOD terrain off players' maps — Servers can set privacy.request_no_map_ingestion (off by default) to ask clients not to add LOD terrain to Xaero's World Map or JourneyMap. Clients older than 0.19.0 get no LODs while it's on and are told to update. - Faster loading with JourneyMap — Distant terrain loads faster while it's also being added to JourneyMap's map.

Clients older than 0.19.0 get no LODs while it's on and are told to update.

    - Minecraft 26.3 — Now supported. On by default for new installs. - LODs off per world — Set a world's LOD distance to 0 to turn LODs off there. - Sponge (experimental) — Runs on SpongeVanilla servers; put the jar in mods/. Thanks to StealWonders for the original port.

    - Per-world LOD distance limits — Brings the Minecraft 26.2 feature to this support line. Set lodDistanceChunksByWorld to override the default radius for individual worlds, or use /lsslod set lodDistanceChunks <world> <distance> while the server is running. Use <world> default to remove an override.
    Configuration
    - World keys — Fabric and NeoForge use dimension IDs such as minecraft:the_nether. Paper tries the Bukkit world name first, then the dimension ID. An empty override map preserves the existing global distance. - Live updates — Current-protocol clients receive the appropriate distance when settings change or they enter a world with a different limit. Legacy clients pick up the advertised limit when they reconnect. Global presets preserve independent world overrides.
    Support and Compatibility
    - Platforms — Fabric on Minecraft 26.1–26.1.2; Paper/Purpur and NeoForge target 26.1.2. NeoForge remains best-effort and Folia remains experimental. - Protocol — Preserves the existing wire protocol and LSS/VSS configuration/cache adoption. This release publishes LSS only. - Known limitations — Existing Xaero first-spawn gaps, region-boundary shading seams and shader/LOD-depth limitations remain. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.15.0…

  54. v0.15.0+paper+mc26.1.2v0.15.0 - Paper/Purpur/Folia (MC 26.1.2)Sep 20, 2026
    New Features
    - LOD status screen — /lss status shows connection state, transfer activity and available integrations, with a reception toggle. It works without Sodium and is also accessible from supported Sodium settings screens. - Local diagnostic exports — Client /lss diagnostics export and server /lsslod diagnostics export save sanitized troubleshooting reports locally. Nothing uploads automatically. - Previewable presets with undo — Client presets include map-only and an explicit Xaero-writing variant; server presets include pregenerated-world and conservative. Preview changes before applying them, and undo the last application when its settings have not been changed independently. - Far-player visibility and privacy controls — Adds readable, sneak-hidden name tags and an optional full-bright mode. Fabric and NeoForge servers honor the far-player hide permission and Melius Vanish; Paper also hides players disguised with LibsDisguises.
    Bug Fixes
    - Fewer redundant chunk downloads after restart — Recognizes unchanged loaded chunks instead of broadcasting ordinary metadata saves as terrain changes. - More reliable Xaero map updates — Retains deferred work for regions that are not ready, retries discarded work through the normal delivery lifecycle, and refreshes dependent shading within a map region after tile updates. - Cleaner reconnects and reception toggles — Retires obsolete requests and callbacks when disconnecting, changing worlds or turning LOD reception off, while preserving valid map redraws already owed to the current world. - Safer terrain and cache updates — Corrects stale loaded-data races, retracts uncertain cache validation, verifies legacy stored data before migration, and preserves incomplete invalidation after interruption. - Improved far-player rendering — Corrects dark lighting, restores nearby skin overlay layers, reduces armor/item flicker, and improves gliding, swimming and stopped-walk poses. Stationary name changes and runtime server-side disabling now update existing far-player displays. - More reliable settings changes — Applies related settings consistently, reports changes that could not be saved, and keeps restart-only changes staged until restart. Legacy Voxy cache-reset compatibility is improved. - NeoForge library compatibility — Packages zstd-jni as a shared nested library, avoiding the startup module conflict with XMMP and other mods bundling the same library. - Folia freshness corrections (experimental) — Preserves newer loaded-chunk results when an earlier disk or stored-data response completes. Folia support remains experimental.
    Configuration
    - Conservative server preset is opt-in — Selects a 32-chunk LOD radius, global generation concurrency 4 and per-player concurrency 1. It does not change the normal defaults or guarantee a performance improvement for every server. - Generation preset takes effect after restart — pregenerated-world stages generation disabling for the next restart; diagnostics distinguish configured and running values. - Far-player animation range — farPlayersMaxAnimationDistanceBlocks now defaults to 512 blocks instead of 256. The new farPlayersFullBright option defaults to off.
    Compatibility and Known Limitations
    - Platforms — Fabric on Minecraft 26.1–26.1.2; Paper/Purpur and NeoForge target 26.1.2. Folia remains experimental and NeoForge remains best-effort. Far-player display improvements apply to the Fabric client; the NeoForge client does not render far players. - Wire compatibility — This release preserves the existing LSS/VSS wire protocol and configuration/cache adoption behavior. VSS uses the equivalent /vss and /vsslod commands. - Xaero map limitations — Brief gaps can remain near the player at first spawn, and native region-boundary slope approximation can produce shading seams. This release does not include the proposed acquisition or boundary-shading workarounds. - Shader limitations — Some shader/Voxy combinations can draw far players over LOD terrain when LOD depth is unavailable to the player renderer. Players beyond the game’s far plane are not drawn. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.14.0…

    New Features
    - Optional permission gate. Servers can now require the lss.use and vss.use permissions before serving LODs to a player. Off by default, so nothing changes unless you turn it on. - Separate cache per world. On proxy networks that put several worlds behind one address, your distant terrain no longer mixes between them. - Safer /lss reset. Reset now checks your Voxy setup before clearing anything and warns you if something looks wrong. Use /lss reset voxy-force for unusual setups. - NeoForge: distant players now render. Far-away players show up in your LOD terrain on the NeoForge build, the same as on Fabric. Best-effort on this line.
    Bug Fixes
    - NeoForge: LODs now work on LAN worlds. Opening a world to LAN on the NeoForge build now serves LODs to players who join. Before, the NeoForge build only served them on dedicated servers. - Far player privacy fixes (Paper). Hidden and vanished players stay hidden, and one misbehaving permissions plugin no longer breaks far players for everyone.
    Compatibility
    - Mixed client and server versions stay fully compatible in both directions. This line (Fabric, Paper, and NeoForge) is best-effort. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.13.1…

    - LOD store no longer rebuilds on every restart with certain mods — Mods that shuffle the block registry each boot (e.g. VisualWorkbench) made the server discard and rebuild its LOD store at every startup; the store is now kept when block ids merely moved. One final rebuild happens on the first start after updating. - Store reset messages now say why — The startup log names the exact reason for a store rebuild (Minecraft version change, mod content change, and so on) instead of one generic drift message. 69. v0.13.0+paper+mc1.21.1v0.13.0 - Paper/Purpur (MC 1.21.1)Aug 26, 2026
    New Features
    - Smarter terrain scanning — nearby terrain fills in clean rings around you while distant terrain streams in efficiently, region by region. - Xaero's World Map keeps up — map writing now paces the LOD download instead of dropping tiles during big fills; short download pauses while the map is busy are normal. - Settings page on the NeoForge client — the LSS options now appear in Sodium 0.8+'s settings screen (was config-file only).
    Bug Fixes
    - Fixes a crash in Xaero's World Map saving — map region saves no longer race the bridge's tile writes. - Smoother frames while the map catches up — map texture rebuilds are spread across frames instead of bunching into single-frame stutters. - The in-game settings page now works on older Sodium versions — the LSS options render on the Sodium 0.6/0.7 generation this line uses.
    Configuration
    - Two new client options, both on by default — enableRegionScan (the new scanning order) and enableXaeroMapBackpressure (the map pacing); set either to false to get the previous behavior.
    Compatibility
    - Mixed client/server versions remain fully compatible in both directions; this line (Fabric, Paper, and NeoForge) is supported best-effort. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.12.0…

    New Features
    - Rejoins stop re-downloading and re-checking terrain you already have — the server no longer re-sends unchanged terrain to returning players (works with any client version), and with client and server both on v0.12.0 cached terrain is verified in seconds instead of minutes. - Xaero's World Map fills in beyond render distance (opt-in) — with Xaero's World Map installed on the client, turn on the new "Write LODs to Xaero's Map" toggle and downloaded LOD terrain is drawn into the map (works even without Voxy). - Lower client memory use — terrain tracking takes roughly 6-10× less memory at the default LOD distance, with fewer hitches when teleporting or switching dimensions.
    Bug Fixes
    - LOD downloads no longer stay slow for a whole session on fast connections — the join speed ramp now completes within about 40 seconds of joining (client-side, works against any server version). - Fabric: replacing the mod jar under a running server no longer risks an unclean shutdown and a lost final world save.
    Compatibility
    - Mixed client/server versions remain fully compatible in both directions; this line (including the NeoForge build) is supported at the best-effort tier, with no features cut in this release. - NeoForge clients get every client-side feature too; the Xaero map bridge there is enabled with enableXaeroMapBridge in lss-client-config.json (NeoForge has no in-game toggle). - Fixes client stuttering when many LOD chunks are loaded — The client no longer re-scans its entire LOD area on every chunk crossing or update notice, only the affected rings. Removes the periodic hitch while moving at large LOD distances. The new client option enableScanPrefixRetention (default true) restores the old behavior when set to false. - Distant generation no longer pauses during nearby block updates — LOD terrain keeps generating at the configured caps while changed chunks are re-sent, so worlds fill in faster on busy servers.

    Highlights
    - Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge support - Adds the MC 1.21.1 line, including a NeoForge build (best-effort tier). - Far Players - See other players far beyond render distance as player models in the LOD terrain, with privacy controls on both server and client. - Much better on slow connections - LOD streaming now paces itself to the connection and lets vanilla traffic go first, so slow links stay smooth and playable while LODs load. - Full backwards compatibility - All servers and clients from v0.4.0 onward keep working with v0.11.0. - New commands - /lsslod set changes server settings live without a restart; /lss reset on the client wipes this server's LODs and re-streams them fresh.
    NeoForge notes
    - Best-effort tier - The client works with the community Voxy NeoForge port plus Forgified Fabric API; Far Players do not render on the NeoForge client. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/commits/v0.11.0…

  87. v0.10.0+paper+mc1.21.11v0.10.0 - Paper/Purpur/Folia (MC 1.21.11)Aug 8, 2026
    New Features
    - Cross-version LOD serving — a client and server on different Minecraft versions can now exchange LODs: any two of 26.2, 26.1, and 1.21.11 work together once both sides run v0.10.0. Older LSS clients (v0.4.x and newer) keep working through the built-in compatibility layers. - ViaVersion safety guard — a client joining through ViaVersion with an older LSS installed is declined cleanly instead of being sent LODs it cannot decode.
    Performance
    - LOD serving interferes less with normal chunk loading — LOD disk reads now stay almost entirely off Minecraft's own chunk-loading path (Fabric), and chunk parsing is leaner. - The freshness cache tracks far more terrain in the same memory — large LOD distances no longer thrash it; existing caches upgrade automatically.
    Configuration
    - Bigger defaults — LOD distance defaults to 512 chunks (was 256), and generation concurrency to 40 server-wide / 40 per player. - Bandwidth caps are now set in MiB/s — mbPerSecondLimitPerPlayer (default 25.0) and mbPerSecondLimitGlobal (default 75.0) replace the old byte-denominated keys; decimals like 12.5 work, and old config files keep working unchanged. - The LOD store is on for new servers — freshly generated configs enable it (lodStore: "on"): repeat requests are served from a per-world store for a fraction of the work, at the cost of roughly doubling the world folder once warmed (lodStoreMaxMB bounds it). Upgrading never changes your disk footprint: an existing config without the key keeps the store off until you enable it. - A slimmer generated config — rarely-needed expert switches no longer appear in generated files, but remain honored if you add them.
    Notes
    - An existing LOD store upgrades in place on first boot via a background pass — no rebuild, and serving continues meanwhile. - Folia support remains experimental (single-player validation only). - This is the MC 1.21.11 build of the v0.10.0 tri-release: all three lines (26.2, 26.1, 1.21.11) ship the same mod at the same feature level, differing only in Minecraft bindings. Cross-version LOD serving works between any two of them once both sides run v0.10.0. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.8.1+…

Cross-version LOD serving works between any two of them once both sides run v0.10.0. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.8.1+…

  89. v0.10.0+paper+mc26.2v0.10.0 - Paper/Purpur/Folia (MC 26.2)Aug 8, 2026
    Notes

  90. v0.9.1+paper+mc26.2v0.9.1 - Paper/Purpur/Folia (MC 26.2)Aug 5, 2026
    Bug Fixes
    - Improves the experience on older clients — v0.7.x–v0.8.x clients get full-quality LOD sessions again instead of the legacy fallback.
    Configuration
    - Adjusted defaults — lower default bandwidth caps (15 MiB/s per player, 60 MiB/s global; existing config files keep their values), and servers running without the LOD store get a one-line startup tip explaining how to enable it. 91. v0.9.0+paper+mc26.2v0.9.0 - Paper/Purpur/Folia (MC 26.2)Aug 3, 2026
    New Features
    - LOD store — recommended, off by default — LSS can keep a compressed copy of every LOD column it serves and answer repeat requests from it instead of re-reading and re-serializing chunks. On a warm store that is ~99% of requests, at roughly 80% less CPU per column. It is off by default only because it roughly doubles your world folder, which should be your decision rather than a surprise. Turn it on with "lodStore": "full" — that one key also enables the background warm-up that pre-fills it from your existing world. Bound it with lodStoreMaxMB if disk is tight; it is derived data, so deleting <world>/lss-lod/ is always safe. - Lower CPU per served chunk — LOD columns are now compressed once on the server and sent to every client as-is, instead of Minecraft's connection compression re-compressing them per player. Bandwidth is roughly unchanged; the saving is CPU on both ends. - Faster LOD streaming while you stand still — the client requests the next batch as soon as the last one arrives, up to four times a second, instead of on a fixed one-second timer. While moving fast the rate stays near the old cadence by design. - Folia support on Minecraft 26.2 — Folia published its first 26.2 build, so the plugin loads on it again. Folia support remains experimental: single-player scenarios pass, concurrent multi-region play is still unvalidated.
    Configuration
    - Higher bandwidth defaults — 25 MiB/s per player (was 20), 256 MiB/s total (was 100). Two settings also auto-size themselves now: set diskReaderThreads and perDimensionTimestampCacheSizeMB to 0 and LSS picks values from your hardware and LOD distance. - Upgrading keeps your existing settings — every value already in your config file is preserved, so the new defaults and auto-sizing will not reach you. Delete diskReaderThreads, perDimensionTimestampCacheSizeMB, bytesPerSecondLimitPerPlayer and bytesPerSecondLimitGlobal from the file (or delete the file) to pick them up. - Retired settings — lodStore: "memory", lodStoreMemoryMB, lodStoreBackfillTickCeilingMillis and syncOnLoadConcurrencyLimitPerPlayer are gone. They are ignored and dropped from your file on the next save; nothing else in it is touched.
    Bug Fixes
    - Turning LSS off now really turns it off — with enabled: false the server no longer creates LOD data or walks your region files. - Disabling background read priority no longer increases disk load — setting useBackgroundReadPriority to false, which admins do when LSS reads compete with normal chunk loading, could give LSS more full-priority read threads than before. - Diagnostic traces stop when you disconnect — /lss trace kept running across disconnects and server changes with no size limit, and produced unreadable output where a comma is the decimal separator. - Paper: compression no longer switches off after a reconnect — a client reconnecting through the legacy-protocol fallback spent the rest of its session receiving uncompressed data. 92. v0.8.2+paper+mc26.2v0.8.2 - Paper/Purpur (MC 26.2)Jul 30, 2026
    Bug Fixes
    - Fixes a fatal world-load crash with Moonrise installed (Fabric) — Servers running the Moonrise optimization mod crashed during startup with a Mixin injection error. LSS's edit detection now hooks the chunk save-data step every chunk system shares, and if a future chunk-system mod bypasses even that, LSS degrades to refresh-on-rejoin instead of crashing. - Block edits now reach connected clients live on C2ME servers (Fabric) — C2ME's rewritten chunk saving bypassed LSS's old save hook entirely, so edited terrain was never re-broadcast and clients only saw changes after rejoining. The new hook sits on the save path C2ME uses too; validated end-to-end against real Moonrise and C2ME servers. - Fixes a race that could freeze stale LOD terrain for a whole session — A client re-request crossing a block edit could be answered "up to date" from pre-edit state, sealing the outdated column until reconnect. Change notifications now apply before requests are processed. - The client LOD cache no longer forgets distant terrain — Saving the client's column cache trimmed it to a disc around the player, erasing far-away history and causing ghost terrain plus full re-downloads on revisit. Saves now merge with the existing cache. - Blocks renamed by Minecraft updates no longer blank out LOD columns — A single unrecognized block in an old region file dropped its whole section, and a fully unreadable column could even wipe the client's correct cached terrain. Disk reads now load leniently (unknown blocks become air, matching vanilla's own behavior), and truly unreadable columns regenerate instead. - Bandwidth caps are enforced accurately — Column payloads larger than one tick's allowance were sent without being charged, letting sustained traffic exceed tight configured caps several times over. The limiter now carries debt, so real throughput converges to the configured cap. - `/reload` no longer strands connected LOD sessions (Paper) — After a reload, connected clients kept requesting while the server silently ignored them until they reconnected. The server now re-attaches orphaned sessions automatically. - Fixes a rare loss of freshly generated chunks (Paper) — Generated chunks are serialized the moment the chunk system delivers them, so a chunk unloading right after generation can no longer vanish from the response. Also applies to Folia, which remains experimental. - Anti-x-ray masking recovers from early engine-probe failures — If the anti-xray engine was not yet readable at first serve, masking locked onto the LSS fallback block list for the whole session; it now retries and adopts the engine's own hidden-block list once available. Masking stayed active either way. - Malformed network frames no longer flood the server log (Paper) — Corrupt or hostile plugin-message frames now log a throttled one-line warning instead of a stack trace per frame.
    Performance
    - Prevents chunk-loading stalls after generation timeouts (Fabric) — A timed-out LOD generation released all of its chunk tickets at once, which could freeze chunk loading for up to a minute on C2ME servers. Releases are now staggered over multiple ticks. - Cheaper background scanning near the player (client) — Positions hidden inside vanilla render distance are parked instead of re-walked on every scan, reducing client CPU during normal play. 93. v0.8.1+paper+mc26.2v0.8.1 - Paper/Purpur (MC 26.2)Jul 28, 2026
    Bug Fixes
    - Fixes a server memory leak that could crash busy servers — Cache saves could queue up faster than they finished writing, each holding a full in-memory copy (reported as an out-of-memory crash within hours — issue #62). Saves now coalesce to the newest state, so memory stays bounded. - Fixes dark faces returning after block edits near LOD terrain — Re-served columns lost their above-terrain sky light, quietly undoing the v0.8.0 black-faces fix. Sky light now survives every re-serve, and a WorldEdit-cleared column renders bright open sky instead of a black volume. - LOD now works in "Open to LAN" worlds — Opening a single-player world to LAN never started the LOD service on MC 26.2; only the /publish command worked. - Bounded memory on long flights — Per-player served-chunk tracking no longer grows for the whole session; far-behind entries are swept periodically. - Fair disk scheduling between players — Under heavy disk load, one player could monopolize LOD disk reads while everyone else's terrain stalled. Service now rotates fairly every cycle.
    Performance
    - Much faster cache saves and loads — Cache files now use buffered IO instead of one tiny write per entry; large saves drop from seconds to milliseconds, which also speeds up server shutdown and client disconnect. Full Changelog: https://github.com/VoX/lod-server-support/compare/v0.8.0.…

Run /lss clearcache once after updating so already-cached LOD data picks up the fix. - Anti-xray now fully covers LOD data — On servers with anti-xray enabled, LOD chunk data could still be inspected to locate hidden ores. Masked LOD data now carries no trace of hidden blocks. - LOD loading starts reliably on Paper — The first batch of LOD requests could be lost at join (recovered a second later). Sessions now start cleanly.
