MotdEngine

MotdEngine is a lightweight, high-performance, and feature-rich server list customization plugin built for modern Paper, Purpur, and Spigot servers (1.21.x – 26.3) running on Java 25.

Create striking first impressions for your server with native MiniMessage RGB gradients, custom player count hover menus, dynamic slots, and instant maintenance mode.

Key Features

  • Native MiniMessage & RGB Gradients: Render smooth gradients (<gradient:#00FFAA:#00A2FF>Server Name</gradient>), rainbow effects, and HEX colors alongside legacy formatting codes (&a, &b, etc.).
  • Multiple MOTD Modes:
    • ROTATING: Automatically cycles through a list of MOTDs at your chosen interval.
    • RANDOM: Displays a random MOTD on every server list ping.
    • STATIC: Locks in a single preferred message.
  • Player Hover Sample: Display custom information (store links, Discord invite, server news) when players hover over the player count in the server list.
  • Dynamic Player Slots: Configure dynamic max slots (online + 1) or set static custom player maximums.
  • Built-in Maintenance Mode: Toggle maintenance with /motd maintenance to display custom maintenance MOTDs, custom protocol version text, and kick non-whitelisted players with a styled message.
  • Live In-Game Management: Preview your active MOTD directly in chat with /motd preview or update it on the fly with /motd set.

Commands & Usage

  • /motd help — Displays the list of available administrative commands.
  • /motd reload — Reloads config.yml and refreshes rotation schedules immediately.
  • /motd maintenance [on|off] — Toggles maintenance mode on or off.
  • /motd set <text> — Sets a single static MOTD message directly.
  • /motd preview — Previews the active MOTD in the in-game chat.
