NeoTab
1.4.2NeoTab – Modern Tablist, Scoreboard and ActionBar Customization NeoTab is a modern and highly customizable Minecraft plugin for Paper, Spigot and CraftBukkit servers. It combines animated tab header
1.4.2latestNeoTab 1.4.2Sep 5, 2026 1.4.2 is a stability and performance update for NeoTab's stable 1.4.x release line. The goal of this release is to improve runtime reliability, configuration safety and performance without changing the existing configuration format or requiring any migration. NeoTab continues to use a single shared JAR for Paper, Spigot and CraftBukkit with Minecraft 1.20.6+ and Java 21+. Existing configurations, commands and permissions remain compatible.Safer configuration handling NeoTab now handles invalid or missing configuration files more safely. Both config.yml and regions.yml are validated before a reload is applied. If either file contains invalid YAML or is missing, the reload is rejected and the last valid configuration remains active instead of being replaced. The affected file is temporarily protected from persistent changes until it has been repaired and successfully reloaded. This prevents later GUI or command changes from accidentally overwriting a damaged configuration with defaults or incomplete data. Additional improvements include: Protection against writes to invalid configuration files Validation of region mapping structures Dedicated English and German error messages Safer behaviour during initial plugin startup Recovery through /tab reload after the file has been repaired
Region and movement handling Region profiles now update correctly after more types of player movement. NeoTab now explicitly handles: Teleports Portals World changes Normal player movement Successful teleports and portals trigger a fresh region check, while cancelled events are ignored. Changing worlds also forces NeoTab to recalculate the active region profile immediately. This fixes cases where the tablist or scoreboard could temporarily continue using the profile from the previous region or world.
Nearest-player performance Nearest-player searches received a significant internal rewrite. Player positions are now captured once per search pass and geometrically irrelevant players are rejected before more expensive visibility checks are performed. Large searches are also spread across multiple server ticks instead of allowing a single update to perform unlimited work. NeoTab currently limits these searches to: 4,096 candidate inspections per tick 64 completed player searches per tick Before a result is used, the player's visibility, connection state, world and distance are checked again to prevent stale results. In a deterministic test with 1,000 visible players at the same coordinates: NeoTab 1.4.1 required: 1,001,000 position reads 999,000 visibility checks NeoTab 1.4.2 required: 3,000 position reads 2,000 visibility checks These numbers represent synthetic operation counts and should not be interpreted as measured TPS or MSPT improvements. The main goal of the change is to reduce unnecessary work and keep larger searches bounded across server ticks.
Timer and stopwatch accuracy Timers and stopwatches now use their own monotonic timing source. This improves accuracy when the server is under load and fixes several timing edge cases. Improvements include: New sessions no longer inherit the timing phase of an existing scheduler task Pause and resume preserve fractional seconds Elapsed time remains accurate when server ticks are delayed Visual updates still follow the Minecraft server scheduler, meaning the display may update late during a lag spike before catching up to the correct measured time.
Chat input and GUI lifecycle Chat-based input and GUI actions are now more resistant to race conditions. Delayed chat responses and timeout callbacks are tied to the exact input session that created them. This prevents an older callback from interfering with a newer prompt. GUI click actions are now scheduled safely for the next server tick and validated before they execute. Actions are discarded if: The player closes or switches the menu The player disconnects NeoTab reloads NeoTab stops The original GUI is no longer active This helps prevent delayed actions from affecting outdated menus or plugin state.
Stability improvements Several smaller lifecycle and runtime issues were also addressed throughout NeoTab. This release includes fixes and additional safeguards for: Configuration recovery Region updates Nearest-player calculations Timer lifecycle handling Chat input sessions GUI click scheduling Plugin reloads and shutdowns The focus of 1.4.2 is not adding new user-facing features, but making the existing NeoTab 1.4.x feature set safer and more predictable during real server use.
Validation NeoTab 1.4.2 was validated using: 65 automated tests 14 new regression tests added specifically for this release Java 21 build verification Cross-platform compatibility checks Server startup and reload smoke tests Manual visual testing Smoke tests were successfully completed on: Paper 1.20.6 Paper 1.21.11 Spigot 1.21.11 CraftBukkit 1.20.6 Paper 26.2 development build The test scenarios covered: Plugin enablement Configuration reloads Region persistence Invalid YAML handling Write protection after failed reloads Configuration recovery after repair Nearest-player settings Clean plugin shutdown LuckPerms 5.5.53 and PlaceholderAPI 2.12.2 were also successfully tested together with NeoTab on Paper 1.21.11. A final manual visual test was completed on Paper 1.21.11 using an existing server configuration. The final release JAR is byte-identical to the artifact used during the server and visual tests.
Compatibility notes PlaceholderAPI 2.12.2 currently fails independently while parsing the version string of the tested Paper 26.2 development build (26.2.build.10-alpha). NeoTab itself continues to run, but PlaceholderAPI integration should not currently be considered validated on that specific development build. Large-player-count TPS and MSPT performance was not benchmarked for this release. The nearest-player improvements are supported by automated regression tests and operation counts rather than a formal server performance benchmark.
Updating Before updating, creating a backup of the existing plugins/NeoTab folder is recommended. Then: Replace the previous NeoTab JAR with NeoTab-1.4.2.jar Perform a full server restart No configuration migration is required.

1.4.0NeoTab 1.4.0Jul 25, 2026 NeoTab 1.4.0
1.4.0is NeoTab's first stable cross-platform release. The goal of this release was not to add a large number of new features, but to make NeoTab more compatible, more reliable, and easier to run across different Bukkit-based server platforms. The plugin now uses a single shared JAR for Paper, Spigot, and CraftBukkit, while keeping Minecraft1.20.6+as the minimum supported version. Existing configurations remain compatible and do not require migration.
NeoTab now compiles against the SpigotCross-platform support
1.20.6API instead of relying on Paper as the common compile target. Paper-specific implementations were replaced with shared Bukkit/Spigot alternatives where possible, allowing the same plugin JAR to work across all supported server platforms. Adventure, MiniMessage, Gson and bStats are now embedded and relocated into NeoTab's own namespace to avoid dependency conflicts while preserving the existing formatting and rendering pipeline. CraftBukkit ActionBar support is handled through a dedicated runtime bridge with a vanilla command fallback if required.
A large part of this release focuses on rendering correctness and runtime performance. Animation updates and statistics refreshes now use separate schedules, allowing animated headers, footers and scoreboards to remain smooth without constantly recalculating player statistics. This release also includes improvements for: - Tablist rendering - Scoreboard rendering - ActionBar handling - Region processing - PlaceholderAPI usage - LuckPerms caching - GUI lifecycle management - Unicode, RGB gradients and emoji support Several internal caches and lifecycle handlers were rewritten to reduce unnecessary work while keeping behaviour consistent across all supported platforms.Rendering and performance
Reload handling has been hardened to better coordinate asynchronous configuration writes and plugin lifecycle events. Scoreboard ownership detection has been improved to better coexist with other plugins that manage scoreboards or teams. Many smaller rendering, scheduling and lifecycle edge cases discovered during cross-platform testing have also been addressed.Stability improvements
NeoTab now supports optional anonymous bStats metrics. The implementation only reports aggregated plugin information and does not collect player names, UUIDs, chat messages, server names, IP addresses or other personal server information. Metrics can be disabled at any time inside the NeoTab configuration.Anonymous metrics
NeoTabValidation
1.4.0was validated using: - 46 automated regression tests across 7 test suites - Java 21 build verification - Dependency relocation validation - A compatibility matrix covering Paper, Spigot and CraftBukkit - Minecraft1.20.6,1.21.11and26.2In addition to the automated regression suite, this release also completed a dedicated 2-hour diagnostic stress test. The scenario simulated 20 active players with continuous movement, jumping, sprinting, world switching and reconnect churn. During the run NeoTab successfully handled: - 24,450 reconnects - 24,470 matching joins and leaves - 240 valid Paper/JVM checkpoints - Stable ~20 TPS - Zero NeoTab exceptions - Zero protocol or driver errors - Zero unexpected disconnects Memory usage stabilised after the initial warm-up period and the diagnostics showed no clear indication of a memory leak or long-term TPS degradation. The reconnect scenario averaged approximately 3.4 reconnects per second, meaning it intentionally is not presented as a validated 5 reconnects/sec benchmark. The diagnostic results are included as additional evidence of NeoTab's runtime stability rather than as a formal performance certification.
Thank you to everyone who tested theThank you
1.4.0beta and provided feedback throughout the development of this release. As always, bug reports and suggestions are greatly appreciated and help make NeoTab better with every update.1.4.0-Beta.1NeoTab 1.4.0-Beta.1Jul 24, 2026 NeoTab 1.4.0 Beta 1
This beta is only intended to remain a beta for a short time.
>We want to test the update under real server conditions, identify any remaining issues, and fix them as quickly as possible before promoting NeoTab 1.4.0 to a stable release.
>Feedback and bug reports are highly appreciated, especially from Spigot and CraftBukkit servers.
NeoTab 1.4.0 is the largest update so far. The headline feature is full Spigot and CraftBukkit support through one shared JAR. We also fixed more than 25 bugs, closed a vanish-related privacy issue, improved permissions and lifecycle handling, and significantly reduced unnecessary work under heavy load. ---Important Security & Privacy Fixes
Vanished players are no longer revealed
In NeoTab 1.3.x, the optionalnearest-playerActionBar module could include vanished players because Bukkit visibility was not checked before calculating the nearest player. This could expose: - the vanished player's name; - their approximate distance; - their presence on the server. This only affected servers where thenearest-playermodule was enabled. NeoTab now checks player visibility before a player can be considered, displayed, or cached. Servers using NeoTab 1.3.x with this module enabled are strongly encouraged to update.Permission model fixes
Several permission inconsistencies were corrected: - Scoreboard GUI actions now require the same base permissions as the equivalent commands. -neotab.guican no longer be combined with individual child permissions to bypass the main Scoreboard permission. - Changing globally stored Timer text now requiresneotab.timer.admin. - Delayed GUI and chat actions recheck permissions before applying changes. ---
NeoTab now uses one shared JAR for: - Paper - Spigot - CraftBukkit MinecraftPaper, Spigot and CraftBukkit Support
1.20.6remains the minimum supported version. The shared codebase no longer depends directly on Paper-only APIs. Tablists, Scoreboards, inventories, items, chat input, advancements and plugin metadata now use Bukkit-compatible implementations. Paper support remains fully available. ---
Spigot and CraftBukkit do not reliably provide the Adventure and MiniMessage libraries required by NeoTab. The necessary libraries are now embedded and relocated into NeoTab's internal namespace. This means: - MiniMessage remains available on every supported platform; - RGB colors and gradients continue to work; - no additional Adventure plugin is required; - conflicts with libraries bundled by other plugins are avoided. The shared Bukkit text APIs preserve colors, RGB values, gradients and normal decorations. Click events, hover events, insertions and custom fonts cannot be preserved through the cross-platform String-based rendering path. NeoTab's default messages do not use these features. ---Embedded Adventure and MiniMessage
Paper and Spigot use their supported Spigot ActionBar interface. CraftBukkit does not provide an equivalent public API, so NeoTab now uses a compatibility bridge with several fallback levels: 1. Use the supported Spigot ActionBar API when available. 2. Use a small runtime packet bridge on CraftBukkit. 3. Fall back to the VanillaCraftBukkit ActionBar Support
minecraft:titlecommand if internal classes change. 4. Log one warning only if every available method fails. The following modules were successfully tested on Spigot and CraftBukkit: - Timer - Stopwatch - Clock - Welcome - Random Messages - Achievements The internal CraftBukkit packet bridge is the only part of NeoTab 1.4.0 that may require additional testing after future Minecraft updates. ---
LuckPerms is now fully isolated behind an optional integration layer. NeoTab can start and register all normal listeners even when LuckPerms is not installed. When LuckPerms is available, prefixes and suffixes continue to work normally. The following integrations remain optional: - LuckPerms - PlaceholderAPI - WorldEdit - FastAsyncWorldEdit Missing optional plugins no longer create hard class-loading dependencies. ---Optional Plugin Integrations
On Spigot and CraftBukkit, Header and Footer animations could stop after their first update. This could also cause: - RAM and Ping values to stop updating; - Tab name changes to stop appearing; - style changes to appear ineffective; - Footer information to remain frozen. The issue was caused by platform-specific color and formatting serialization. NeoTab incorrectly interpreted the value returned by Spigot or CraftBukkit as an external plugin taking ownership of the Tablist. NeoTab now normalizes platform output and remembers the representation returned by the active server implementation. Real changes made by other plugins are still detected and respected. Header and Footer ownership are now tracked separately, preventing one externally modified section from affecting restoration of the other. ---Spigot and CraftBukkit Header/Footer Freeze Fixed
The animation system was reworked so that every style is visually distinguishable.Improved Animation Styles
- Uses a real multi-color spectrum. - Colors visibly travel across the text. - No longer rotates only through similar purple shades.rainbow
- Remains a smooth, unified pulse. - Uses the configured NeoTab color palette.purple-pulse
- Continuously moves the gradient phase. - Remains visible even when similar shades are configured.gradient-wave
- Intentionally remains still. - Correctly applies the final gradient color to the last character. Animation processing is now Unicode-safe and no longer splits emojis or UTF-16 surrogate pairs. ---static
NeoTab's update systems received a major performance review. Changes include: - separate update paths for animations and shared statistics; - cached Footer, Ping and RAM data; - cached player names and optional LuckPerms decorations; - batched Join and Quit refreshes; - fewer unnecessary global player refreshes; - debounced Region changes; - only one pending Region refresh per player; - cached shared render information; - cached average Ping values; - cached static Scoreboard templates; - reduced PlaceholderAPI work for static content; - skipped Bukkit updates when displayed content has not changed; - cached ActionBar bridge and reflection strategies; - improved shutdown handling; - non-blocking YAML persistence during reload; - deterministic ordering for writes affecting multiple YAML files. NeoTab is no longer designed only for normal server conditions. The update systems are now also protected against rapid reconnects, Region-border movement, plugin reloads and other high-load edge cases. ---Performance and Availability Improvements
NeoTab still allows fast Scoreboard update intervals such asFast Scoreboard Intervals Remain Available
1,2or3ticks. This is intentional. Small servers with approximately 5–10 players may prefer these intervals because they provide smoother animations and can still run them without noticeable performance problems. NeoTab does not force a minimum interval of 10 or 20 ticks. Instead, a warning is displayed during startup or/tab reloadwhen: - the Scoreboard interval is below 5 ticks; or - the interval is below 10 ticks while PlaceholderAPI or many dynamic lines are being used. The warning explains that fast intervals may be completely reasonable on small servers, but can create higher Main Thread load on larger servers. Intervals of 10–20 ticks are recommendations for larger servers, not enforced limits. Invalid values such as zero or negative intervals are still rejected. ---
The Scoreboard system received multiple compatibility, lifecycle and performance fixes. Changes include: - delayed Join tasks can no longer recreate an already disabled Scoreboard; - pending Join tasks are cancelled on Quit, disableScoreboard Improvements
1.3.3NeoTab 1.3.3Jul 12, 2026 NeoTab 1.3.3 — Stability, Performance & Scoreboard Compatibility Update NeoTab 1.3.3 is a major stability, performance, and interoperability update for the 1.3.x release line. This release includes all improvements introduced with 1.3.2 and adds an important fix for servers where other plugins temporarily take control of a player’s scoreboard. The update makes NeoTab more reliable on active servers, improves compatibility with scoreboard and sidebar plugins, modernizes its Paper integrations, and reduces unnecessary background work.Improved Scoreboard Compatibility NeoTab now handles temporary scoreboard takeovers more reliably. When another plugin displays a temporary sidebar, minigame scoreboard, lobby board, or similar interface, NeoTab will yield without permanently disabling its own scoreboard for that player. * Temporary scoreboard takeovers are no longer treated as permanent player opt-outs. * NeoTab continues checking the configured scoreboard state during regular update ticks. * NeoTab does not fight another plugin while that plugin actively owns the scoreboard. * Existing NeoTab sessions are reused when another plugin restores NeoTab’s previously known scoreboard. * A fresh NeoTab session is created when the external plugin restores an empty and available scoreboard. * Temporary ownership information is cleared when a player explicitly disables the NeoTab scoreboard. This allows temporary sidebar plugins to take control when needed while ensuring that NeoTab can safely return afterward.
General Plugin Interoperability NeoTab now behaves more carefully when other plugins manage the tablist or scoreboard. * Tablist data is only restored while NeoTab still owns the affected state. * NeoTab yields when another plugin takes control of the tablist. * Existing scoreboards containing objectives or teams are no longer unnecessarily replaced. * NeoTab detects when another plugin assigns a scoreboard later and releases ownership correctly. * Delayed join operations can no longer recreate region or scoreboard data after a player has already disconnected. These changes make NeoTab safer to use alongside scoreboard, tablist, minigame, lobby, permissions, and server-management plugins.
Performance Improvements Several frequently used systems have been optimized: * Region Profiles now use chunk-based lookup instead of checking every region individually. * Extremely large regions automatically use a safe fallback system. * Nearest-player detection now uses a spatial grid instead of comparing every player against every other player. * Advancement data and player completion counts are cached. * Player-independent footer components are shared between players. * Unchanged tablist packets are skipped instead of being sent repeatedly. * YAML changes are grouped before being written. * Configuration files are written atomically on a dedicated writer thread. These improvements reduce unnecessary calculations, packet traffic, and disk activity, especially on servers with more players, regions, advancements, or frequently updated tablists.
Permission Fixes NeoTab now performs additional permission checks before executing delayed or interactive actions. * GUI clicks recheck the required granular permission. * Delayed chat callbacks verify permissions again before applying changes. * Scoreboard parent permissions now inherit correctly. * ActionBar Extras parent permissions now inherit correctly. This prevents players from completing actions after their permissions have been removed or changed.
Modern Paper API Support NeoTab now uses modern Adventure-based Paper APIs for: * Asynchronous chat events * Inventory titles * Scoreboard components Deprecated scoreboard APIs and Gradle resource-processing APIs have also been removed. This improves compatibility with modern Paper versions and prepares NeoTab for future updates.
Lifecycle & Configuration Fixes * Failed update checks no longer leave outdated results cached. * The global ActionBar setting is now respected by timer and stopwatch services. * Legacy ActionBar Timer configuration paths remain supported when editing timer text. * Region Profile boundaries stay consistent regardless of whether Pos1 or Pos2 is edited first. * Join and quit timing issues have been resolved. * YAML persistence is safer and more resistant to interrupted writes.
Testing & Validation NeoTab 1.3.3 includes regression tests covering: * Active external scoreboard ownership * Restoration of NeoTab’s previously known scoreboard * Restoration of an empty and available scoreboard * YAML persistence * Version comparison and ordering * Timer parsing * Canonical Region Profile boundaries The complete Gradle build and all regression tests pass without deprecation warnings. The plugin was also runtime-tested on: * Paper 1.20.6 * Paper 1.21.11 * Paper 26.1.2 Testing included plugin startup, reloads, commands, RCON usage, configuration persistence, and clean server shutdowns.
Compatibility * Server software: Paper * Minecraft: 1.20.6+ * Java: Java 21 or newer * Optional integrations: LuckPerms, PlaceholderAPI, WorldEdit and FastAsyncWorldEdit
Updating NeoTab 1.3.3 is a recommended update for everyone currently using a 1.3.x version, especially servers that use additional scoreboard or temporary sidebar plugins. Replace the previous NeoTab .jar file with the new version and restart your server. Existing configuration files will continue to be used. As always, creating a backup before updating server plugins is recommended. Thank you for using NeoTab!

1.3.0NeoTab 1.3.0Jul 7, 2026 NeoTab 1.3.0 — Stable Compatibility Release
NeoTab 1.3.0 is now stable. This update focuses on stability, compatibility, and making NeoTab safer to use across modern Paper versions. The main goal of 1.3.0 is not to overload the plugin with random new features, but to make the current NeoTab feature set more reliable for real servers. NeoTab now builds against the lowest supported Paper API version instead of a newer Paper API. That means the plugin is better protected against accidentally using newer Paper-only methods that could break compatibility on older supported servers. This release turns the 1.3.0 beta builds into a stable update. ---Main Focus
Safer Paper compatibility
NeoTab 1.3.0 now compiles against:Paper API 1.20.6-R0.1-SNAPSHOTThis helps make sure NeoTab does not accidentally depend on newer Paper API features while still supporting modern Paper servers. In simple words: - safer compatibility range - less risk of hidden newer-version API usage - better protection for servers running older supported Paper versions - cleaner stable release target ---
NeoTab 1.3.0 uses: - Platform: Paper - Minecraft: 1.20.6+ - Java: 21+ - Build API target: Paper 1.20.6 - Bytecode target: Java 21 This release is intended for modern Paper servers and keeps the plugin lightweight. Older versions below 1.20.6 are not planned, because NeoTab uses modern Minecraft/Paper text and UI systems. ---Build & Runtime

This stable release includes the 1.3.0 beta improvements and cleanup work: - Build target changed to Paper API 1.20.6 - Java 21 bytecode target kept - Safer compatibility protection for supported Paper versions - Documentation updated for the 1.3.0 release line - Build API notes added - Stable release prepared from the 1.3.0 beta builds - Current NeoTab features kept intact - Lower risk of accidental newer Paper API usage This is mainly a stability and compatibility release, not a huge feature expansion. ---Improvements in 1.3.0
Updating from NeoTab 1.2.0 or a 1.3.0 beta build is recommended. Before updating: - Stop your server - Back up your NeoTab config - Replace the old jar with NeoTab 1.3.0 - Start the server again - Check the console for warnings Existing configs should continue to work, but keeping a backup is always recommended when updating plugins. ---Updating
NeoTab 1.3.0 targets: - Paper 1.20.6+ - Paper 1.21.x - Paper 26.x - Java 21+ Platform: - Paper Not supported: - Spigot - Bukkit - Folia - Minecraft versions below 1.20.6 ---Compatibility
Next, I want to look into Spigot and Bukkit support. NeoTab is currently focused on Paper, but future updates may expand support to: - Spigot - Bukkit This will take testing and some compatibility work, but the goal is to make NeoTab available for more servers while keeping it lightweight and easy to use. What Comes Next
Found a bug, console warning, GUI issue, PlaceholderAPI problem, LuckPerms issue, scoreboard problem, or weird tablist behavior? Please report it on GitHub Issues:Bug Reports
https://github.com/DasEtwa/NeoTab/issuesPlease include: - NeoTab version - Server software and version - Java version - Installed plugins - Console error or log - Steps to reproduce the issue Please do not report bugs only in Modrinth comments, because GitHub Issues are much easier to track and fix. ---Thanks
Thanks for using NeoTab and testing the 1.3.0 beta builds. NeoTab 1.3.0 is a stable cleanup and compatibility release that keeps the plugin lightweight, modern, and safer for supported Paper servers.1.3.0-Beta.3NeoTab 1.3.0-Beta.3Jun 30, 2026 NeoTab 1.3.0-Beta.3 — Compatibility & Bugfix Cleanup This beta focuses on cleanup, compatibility safety, and fixing several issues found during the 1.3.0 Beta testing cycle. NeoTab now has stronger protection for the documented 1.20.6+ support range and includes fixes for ActionBar Extras, scoreboard handling, German config text, and command documentation. ⸻Fixed ActionBar Extras now fully respect the global toggle When extras.actionbar.enabled: false is set, ActionBar Extra modules no longer keep their internal tasks running. Previously, ActionBarService rejected ActionBar submissions correctly, but modules like Timer, Clock, Random Messages, Biome Popup, Nearest Player, and Achievements could still start scheduled tasks in the background. This is now handled more safely: * ActionBar Extras do not start when the global ActionBar setting is disabled. * Restarting ActionBar Extras also respects the global toggle. * Existing module tasks are stopped cleanly when disabled. ⸻ Safer scoreboard handling with other plugins NeoTab now avoids blindly resetting players back to the main scoreboard. Before this update, disabling or clearing NeoTab’s scoreboard could overwrite another plugin’s scoreboard state. NeoTab now tracks its own scoreboard usage more carefully and only restores/clears when the player is still using a NeoTab-owned board. This improves compatibility with other scoreboard plugins. ⸻ German message pack encoding fixed Broken German text encoding has been corrected. Examples fixed: * Spaß → Spaß * Glück → Glück * zurück → zurück The German message pack is still inactive by default, but it should no longer contain broken Mojibake text when copied or enabled manually. ⸻ Command usage/docs synced The plugin usage/help documentation has been updated to better match the current 1.3.0 Beta command set. Newer Extras commands are now included in the docs/plugin usage text, including: * randommessages * welcome * biomepopup * nearestplayer * achievements ⸻
Compatibility Compile target changed to Paper API 1.20.6 NeoTab now compiles against the lowest documented supported Paper API version: Paper API 1.20.6-R0.1-SNAPSHOT This helps prevent accidental usage of newer Paper-only APIs while NeoTab still claims support for 1.20.6+. Build details: * Paper API compile target: 1.20.6-R0.1-SNAPSHOT * Java bytecode target: Java 21 * Plugin API version: 1.20 Tested build command: ./gradlew clean build ⸻
Known Beta Notes This is still a beta release. Please keep a backup of your plugins/NeoTab/config.yml before updating. The following areas are known and may receive further cleanup in later beta builds: * Very long scoreboard lines can still be limited by Minecraft scoreboard/team text behavior. * The Nearest Player module can become expensive on large servers if enabled with many players. * The Achievements module still benefits from future caching improvements. * The update checker currently uses lightweight parsing and may be hardened later. These are not expected to affect most small or medium test servers with default settings. ⸻

1.2.0NeoTab 1.2.0Jun 17, 2026 NeoTab 1.2.0 — GUI, Scoreboard & ActionBar Timer NeoTab 1.2.0 is now stable. This update is a big step for NeoTab: the plugin is no longer just a lightweight animated tablist plugin. It now includes an ingame control panel, improved scoreboard controls, separate update intervals, animated scoreboard titles and a configurable ActionBar Timer.New Ingame Control Panel You can now open the NeoTab GUI with: /tab gui The GUI is split into three simple categories: Tab Scoreboard Extras The GUI lets you configure NeoTab more easily without editing every setting manually in the config. GUI items are protected and cannot be taken or moved.
Tab GUI improvements The Tab menu now includes direct controls for: * Tab/header name * Animation style * Built-in color presets * Custom hex color input Supported color presets: purple red green gold Custom hex colors are still supported: /tab color #AA00AA,#BA55D3,#DDA0DD
Scoreboard system NeoTab 1.2.0 adds a per-player sidebar scoreboard foundation. Basic commands: /tab sb on /tab sb off /tab sb toggle /tab sb title <text> /tab sb style <off|rainbow|purple-pulse|gradient-wave|static> /tab sb interval <smooth|balanced|light|custom ticks> /tab sb line <1-15> <text> /tab sb clear <1-15> /tab sb clearall /tab sb save <name> /tab sb load <name> /tab sb delete <name> /tab sb list The GUI can also edit scoreboard lines through presets: * Online players * Player name * Ping * RAM * Custom text * Clear line Named scoreboard presets can now be saved, loaded and deleted through commands or the GUI.
Animated scoreboard titles Scoreboard titles can now use the same animation styles as the tab header: rainbow purple-pulse gradient-wave static You can also disable scoreboard title animation: /tab sb style off
Separate update intervals NeoTab now separates tab rendering and scoreboard rendering intervals. This helps keep the plugin lightweight while still allowing smoother tab animations and slower scoreboard updates. Scoreboard interval command: /tab sb interval <smooth|balanced|light|custom ticks>
Configurable ActionBar Timer The ActionBar Timer can now be controlled through commands and the GUI. Commands: /tab timer start <duration> /tab timer stop /tab timer pause /tab timer resume /tab timer text <text with {time}> Duration examples: 30s 5m 10m 1h Example custom timer text: /tab timer text Event starts in {time} When the countdown finishes, NeoTab shows the configured completion text.
Built-in scoreboard placeholders NeoTab supports these built-in placeholders inside scoreboard title and lines: {online} {max} {ping} {avg_ping} {ram_used} {ram_max} {ram_percent} {server_name} {player} {player_name} PlaceholderAPI remains optional and is only used when installed and enabled.
Shared color palette NeoTab now uses the active color palette more consistently across tab output, scoreboard output, chat messages and timer output.
Compatibility * Platform: Paper * Minecraft: 1.20.6+ * Tested with Paper 1.20.6-26.2 (paper beta) * Java: 21+ * PlaceholderAPI: optional * LuckPerms: optional
Bug reports Found a bug, GUI issue, scoreboard problem or weird formatting behavior? Please report it on GitHub Issues so it can be tracked and fixed properly. Thanks Thanks for using NeoTab and testing the 1.2.0 beta builds. This release turns the 1.2.0 beta features into a stable update and sets the foundation for future ActionBar Extras and bigger UI features.
1.2.0-Beta.2NeoTab 1.2.0-Beta.2Jun 17, 2026 NeoTab 1.2.0-Beta.2 — GUI & Scoreboard Polish NeoTab 1.2.0-Beta.2 continues the new 1.2.0 ingame UI foundation and improves the first beta with better scoreboard controls, cleaner GUI options, improved ActionBar Timer customization and scoreboard performance optimizations. This is still a beta release, but it is a big step toward making NeoTab more than just a tablist plugin: it is becoming a lightweight ingame UI control panel for Paper servers.New & Improved Improved /tab gui The NeoTab control panel is now more useful while still staying simple. Open it with: /tab gui The GUI is built around three clean categories: Tab Scoreboard Extras The Tab menu now includes: * Name editor * Style selector * Color presets * Custom color input The GUI uses safe inventory handling, so players cannot take or move GUI items.
Scoreboard improvements The basic sidebar scoreboard foundation has been improved. You can now configure and control the scoreboard with commands and the GUI: /tab sb on /tab sb off /tab sb toggle /tab sb title <text> /tab sb style <off|rainbow|purple-pulse|gradient-wave|static> /tab sb interval <smooth|balanced|light|custom ticks> /tab sb line <1-15> <text> /tab sb clear <1-15> /tab sb clearall /tab sb save <name> /tab sb load <name> /tab sb delete <name> /tab sb list Scoreboard title animation Scoreboard titles can now use NeoTab animation styles: rainbow purple-pulse gradient-wave static You can also disable the title animation with: /tab sb style off Separate scoreboard interval The scoreboard now has its own update interval, independent from the tab header/footer animation interval. This helps keep NeoTab lightweight while still allowing smooth tab animations.
Scoreboard performance optimization Beta.2 improves how scoreboard values are rendered. Global values like online players, max players, RAM usage and average ping are no longer recalculated for every player and every scoreboard line. Instead, NeoTab builds a shared render context per scoreboard update and reuses it across all scoreboard lines. This should reduce unnecessary work, especially on servers with more players or PlaceholderAPI usage.
Built-in scoreboard placeholders NeoTab supports these built-in placeholders inside scoreboard title and lines: {online} {max} {ping} {avg_ping} {ram_used} {ram_max} {ram_percent} {server_name} {player} {player_name} PlaceholderAPI is still optional and only used when installed and enabled.
ActionBar Timer improvements The ActionBar Timer is still simple, but now more customizable. Commands: /tab timer start <duration> /tab timer stop /tab timer pause /tab timer resume /tab timer text <text with {time}> Duration examples: 30s 5m 10m 1h The timer is shown above the hotbar using the ActionBar. Example custom text: /tab timer text Event starts in {time}
Color system polish Beta.2 also improves the color handling used by NeoTab’s UI features. The Tab GUI can now access the built-in color presets and custom hex color input more directly.
Compatibility * Platform: Paper * Minecraft: 1.20.6+ * Java: 21+ * PlaceholderAPI: optional * LuckPerms: optional
Beta notice This is a beta release. The new GUI, scoreboard and ActionBar Timer systems are actively being tested and improved. Please report bugs, weird formatting issues or scoreboard problems on GitHub Issues. Thanks Thanks for using NeoTab and testing the 1.2.0 beta builds. This update keeps the plugin lightweight while making the new ingame UI system more useful and cleaner to configure.
1.1.1NeoTab 1.1.1Jun 16, 2026 NeoTab 1.1.1 — Custom Colors & Compatibility Update NeoTab 1.1.1 is a small but important patch update focused on customization, bug fixes, and wider compatibility. This release adds new custom header color options, improves the way NeoTab handles tablist formatting, fixes several smaller issues, and adds tested compatibility with Paper 26.2 Beta.New: Custom Header Colors You can now change the animated tab header colors directly in-game. Use one of the built-in presets: /tab color purple /tab color red /tab color green /tab color gold Or create your own custom color list: /tab color #AA00AA,#BA55D3,#DDA0DD Custom color lists support 1–5 hex colors and are saved into the config automatically.
Improvements & Bug Fixes This update also includes several smaller fixes and cleanup changes to make NeoTab more stable and nicer to use: * Improved LuckPerms name color handling * Better support for formatted player list names * Animated headers are no longer forced bold by default * Added an optional config setting to restore bold header animations * Small internal cleanup and stability improvements If you want the old bold animation style back, enable it in the config: header: bold-animation: true
Compatibility NeoTab 1.1.1 supports modern Paper servers and has been tested on: * Paper 1.20.6 * Paper 1.21.x * Paper 26.1.x * Paper 26.2 Beta Older versions below 1.20.6 are not planned, because NeoTab uses modern Paper/Minecraft UI and text APIs. Note: Paper 26.2 is currently beta-tested compatibility.
Included 1.1.x Features NeoTab 1.1.1 still includes all current 1.1.x features: * Animated tablist header * Live footer with RAM and ping stats * Optional PlaceholderAPI support * Optional LuckPerms support * Modrinth update checker * In-game performance presets * In-game header color presets * Custom header color lists
